Dolomiti Bellunesi: A Certified Park

( Feltre, 23 September 10 )The ISO Certification and the EMAS Registration of Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park have been renewed
"A confirmation of the quality of our work" declared the President Benedetto Fiori

Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park was the first European Park to obtain in 2003 the certification of its environmental and quality management system according to the international rules ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and, in 2004, it also obtained the EMAS registration.
EMAS is a voluntary environmental management system (established by the European Union) aiming at rationalizing the environmental management quality of the organizations, focusing not only on the respect of the environmental legislation (that remains an obligation), but on the continuous improvement of the environmental performance, the creation of a new and fiduciary relationship with the institutions and the public, and the active participation of the personnel.
The organization joining the EMAS Regulations must conduct an initial environmental review, adopt its own environmental policy (containing commitment both to comply with all relevant environmental legislation and to achieve continuous improvements in environmental performance), and implement it through an environmental program, whose application is periodically assessed by the environmental audit procedure. Afterwards, the organization provides a statement of its environmental performance made publicly available: the statement lays down the results achieved against the environmental objectives and the future steps to be undertaken in order to continuously improve the organization's environmental performance.
The statement must be approved by an independent and accredited EMAS verifier. At this point, the organization is registered and included in a special European EMAS register.
Once they have been obtained, the ISO certification and the EMAS registration must be confirmed after some time: for this reason the Park Authority, like all the certified structures, undergoes periodical inspections carried out by accredited verifiers recognized at an international level.
The certification must be renewed every three years.
In the last few days, RINA verifiers – belonging to a world-class certification body – carried out the inspection for the renewal of the certification.
After two days of thorough analysis of the activities carried out by the Park Authority, they confirmed for the third time the renewal of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications and the EMAS registration.
"The renewal of the certification – has declared the President of the Park Parco Benedetto Fiori – is an important result confirming the efficiency and the quality of the work carried out by the Park Authority in these years and gives us the opportunity to follow the path traced by the previous administrations".
Also the Director of the Park, Nino Martino, has expressed his satisfaction, since "the renewal of the certification demonstrates our attention to the continuous improvement of the Park Authority activities. Attention made of efficient actions for the preservation of the territory and efficient services offered to both citizens and Park visitors. The verifiers who have analyzed our management system in these days have appreciated in particular three activities:
- the computerized management of the authorization papers, enabling us to keep constantly under control the state of the authorizations issued by the Park Authority and to provide a reply to the citizens in half the time established by law;
- the maintenance procedures of the local structures that have increased in number and that today include, besides the Park Head Offices in Feltre, the former mining site of Valle Imperina, Pedavena Visitor Center, "Piero Rossi" Cultural Center in Belluno, "La Santina" Environmental Education Center in Val Canzoi, Frassen Lodge, "Campanula morettiana" Botanic Garden, and the new picnic and rest area in Pian Falcina, inaugurated in July;
- the "Carta Qualità" system awarding the Park logo to the local structures, that has been entirely reviewed last spring in order to simplify the procedures and the bureaucratic requirements for the structures, reduced today to a simple application form.
I would like to point out – the Director concluded – that these results have been obtained by a Park Authority managed by a very small team of public workers who love nature and their own job".
