ENVIRONMENT QUALITY LABEL

OBJECTIVES

To involve some specific product lines or services of the wide area in the environmental improvement process

7.1 Evaluation of the experience of the Quality Chart
The action will be carried out by PNDB in cooperation with Ambiente Italia and other external consultants. It is finalized to examine methods and results of the Quality Chart already instituted by the Park as a stimulation for the best practices, oriented to productive activities and services located within the area and as an instrument for the promotion of the same activities, that are carried out in order to follow environmental and conservation criteria set by the park institution. The “Quality Chart” is a project born to increase the promotion of products and services supplied by local firms that are produced respecting procedures and quality parameters established by the Park. Firms and organisations that wants to join voluntarily to this project and use the park logo for their promotional activities must follow direction supplied by the park institution. At the moment the activities that have been classified and regulated by the “quality chart” are: Tourist accommodations (hotels, B&B, camping, etc.), agro-food productions (especially traditional products and from organic farming, PDO/PGI products), typical handicraft productions, environmental education and excursion activities, trade services and events, festivals, manifestations (dedicated web site: http://www.dolomitipark.it/italiano/carta_qualita.php).
The validation of the experience of the “quality chart” will proceed as for validation of other tasks of the project (see action 1.2). In this case interviews with applicants (form the firms adopting the chart) and end users (especially tourists) will permit to validate the effectiveness of the tool.
7.2 Definition of the environment quality label
The action will be carried out by PNDB in cooperation with Ambiente Italia and external consultants. It is finalised first of all to the characterization of the “environment quality supplier”, specific chains of products and services to which the label could be applied. This activity will involve also local associations and persons representative of the most important chains. Then will be defined requirements and specifications for the assignment of the environment quality label, in accordance with European directives (SINCERT). A set of rules for surveillance and application of the label will also set up. Meetings and training activities are also foreseen in order to assist the subscriber of the label and the bodies to which activities of monitoring and control will be charged.
7.3 Marketing project
The action will be realized by the PNDB in cooperation with Ambiente Italia and external consultants. It will be finalised to support the adoption of the label from the enterprises of the chains interested by the project, improving the economic convenience. The marketing project will be oriented to tourists and consumers and will be detailed during the project. During this phase illustrative documents will be produced and initiatives for the promotion of the label will organised, targeted to final users.

The engagement of productive activities is very important in order to ensure a real reduction of the impacts and the improvement of the environment.. The experience of the “Carta Qualità” constitutes a good starting base for the comprehension and affirmation of the label.
