The project moves from the course indicated by orientations for the implementation of the reg. EC 761/01 (EMAS) related to bodies that can be registered and analyses possibilities of integration between local Agenda 21 and EMAS. The aim of the project is to register the wide area that includes the surface of the Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi and the 15 neighbouring municipalities. The partnership includes the largest municipalities of the area (altogether 62,000 inhabitants, more than 60% of Park’s population). Considering the steering role of the Park and other partners in the area, the well-established relationships with relevant local stakeholders and the dissemination actions planned (task 2) it is expected a fast spreading of the contents of the projects among all other municipalities, the most of them are too small for participating directly to the project or only partially included in the Park’s area. Actually 12 municipalities are already involved in the Agenda 21 process. The project is finalised to the definition and application of a new model for the management of the registration of wide area, by means of sharing procedures and integration of several existing instruments. The model could be transferred to other areas with similar characteristics.

Specific purposes of the project are:

1. Increasing of the consciousness of the concept of sustainable development and participation of local actors in the process of improvement of the environment;
2. Legitimating of Agenda 21 and strengthening of the role of the Parco as promoter of the sustainable development;
3. Realizing useful instruments for the registration EMAS of wide area;
4. Conceiving of an instrument (environmental quality label) for improving the participation of productive activities and services in the process of environmental improvement.
