Park expansion
After completion of adjustment of the Park's boundaries (now awaiting issue of the Presidential Decree to make the new boundaries effective), in February 2007, a new phase of dialogue with local authorities, citizens and associations began to expand the boundaries of the protected area in agreement with all parties to incorporate new and sometimes not directly adjacent areas.
The aim is to guarantee the maximum protection for species and biodiversity by constructing a vast "ecological corridor" in the Dolomites, joining the Lagorai, the Trentino Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Regional Park, the Belluno Dolomites National Park and the Friuli Dolomites Regional Park.
Administrative procedure
The President of the Park, Prof. Guido De Zordo, has sent a letter to the mayors of the 15 municipalities wholly or partly within the Park and other adjacent municipalities, the Presidents of Belluno and Trento Province, the Regional Councillor for Parks, the Presidents of the five Associations of Upland Authorities and the President of the Park Community.
The letter opens the procedure to expand the protected area to include additional parts of municipalities currently in the Park and new areas in adjoining municipalities and elicits the individual local authorities to express an interest.
The hypotheses for expanding the park will be developed in agreement between the municipalities and the Park Authority, with public meetings organised to fully explain the objectives, constraints, advantages and opportunities deriving from being part of a national park on the basis of the management experience gained and tangible results achieved in the Belluno Dolomites.

In parallel with the dialogue opened with the municipalities, individual residents and/or property owners can also inform the Park Authority of their interest in being included in the boundaries of the protected area.
All you need do is fill in the special form and send it by fax to the Park Authority (fax: +39-0439-322999) together with a photocopy of a valid identity document.
Associations, cultural organisations, local tourism promotion organisations, professional organisations and any other organised party representing public or common interests can make a proposal for expanding the boundaries to the Park Authority. Once again, all you need do is fill in the special form and send it by fax to +39-0439-332999, together with a copy of a valid identity document of the signatory.
