The new boundary
After 13 years, the Belluno Dolomites National Park is coming to grips with the delicate task of reviewing its boundaries. This is divided into two separate phases:
- Boundary adjustment
The boundary of the protected area must be adjusted to make it easier to identify, associating it with geographical elements such as ridges, peaks, roads, footpaths and torrents. This resolves a number of points of dispute over the present boundaries, deriving from problems in interpretation. The new boundaries were approved by Presidential Decree on 9 January 2008, published in the Gazzetta Ufficiale no. 108 of 9 May 2008.
- Expanding the protected area
The protected area must be expanded to include a number of areas of high wildlife and environmental value excluded from the 1990 Park boundaries and to create ecological corridors with adjoining protected areas.
